This article is about the episode. You may be looking for the book, or the event.
It's Halloween, children, and there's much to be afraid of: Ghouls, goblins, and those spooky motion sensor decorations, you know the ones. But nothing's more frightenin' — than what we'll see this evening. The sky will turn red, creepy things will happen, for tonight there will be... A BLOOD MOON!

"Blood Moon" is the 37th episode of Season 1 and the 37th episode overall of Big City Greens. However, it is the 29th episode in chronological order. It is the first half-hour episode, and a Halloween special.

Synopsis[]

On Halloween, a spooky Blood Moon rises and turns the Green's farm animals into a horde of zombie-like creatures.

Plot[]

It is Halloween night and Gramma Alice warns Cricket and Tilly a "blood moon" is upon them that evening, and things will not be the same. The children fittingly disregard her warnings as they prepare for the night.

Alice has Bill lock up the animals in the garage while Cricket and Tilly happily announce their intent to get as much candy as they possibly can. Bill interjects he will join them, but the kids turn him down. When they lived in the country, they had to drive from house to house and they would not get as much candy, but now that they live in Big City where the houses are bunched together, they do not need him. Bill begins feeling dejected by this as he tries to convince the kids to let him tag along, as he always comes with them, but they don't listen.

After not believing another warning from Gramma about the blood moon, Gloria shows up to tell Cricket to not leave any bad jack-o'-lanterns at work, but is scared by him and faints, forcing Alice to drag her inside. Bill shows up in a lumberjack costume, but is dismissed again when Remy and Vasquez arrive, both dressed as hot dogs, with the former upset over the latter for wearing the same costume claiming he stole his.

Just before the kids leave, the blood moon suddenly arises, and Cricket suddenly sees the farm animals begin going manic, attacking everyone, even though the garage was locked. Everyone rushes inside to hide from the animals as Gloria awakens to the madness. She hastily attempts to escape, but gets bitten and attacked by the farm animals outside and runs back in. Once inside, Gramma reveals that was what she tried to warn the kids about -- every some years or so, a blood moon rises on Halloween night and initiates a farmer's curse which turns every farm animal into man-eating zombies. In addition, the blood moon won't be over for a couple hours from now, when trick-or-treating will be over, and Cricket believes Halloween is ruined.

To make Cricket happy, Bill decides to simulate trick or treating inside the house for him and Remy, much to Cricket's confusion and annoyance, while at the same time, the power goes out. Tilly and Alice are convinced Gloria is "infected" and tie her up. Tilly wants to perform experiments on her while Alice want to kill her. Vasquez sneaks off and discovers the animals did not escape through the garage door, it was open from the outside and they were let out. As everyone begins arguing, the animals break through Cricket's secret entrance as they overtake the house.

Cricket manages to find a flashlight to temporarily ward away the animals and everyone (except Gloria who is left tied up on the floor) escapes into the basement. As they collect themselves, Bill mumbles to himself thinking it wouldn't get this bad, and Cricket was acting to puzzle, making Bill nervous. But then it was revealed, Bill accidentally reveals he was the one who released the animals, evidenced by the lock to the garage door falling out of his pocket. Realizing he's been caught Bill explains he could not fathom spending Halloween without his kids and did not want to lose a moment with them. When he remembered the Blood Moon, he released the animals hoping they would trap the kids at home so they would still spend Halloween together. Naturally, everyone is furious with Bill for his actions, especially Cricket who never got to go trick-or-treating, and they choose to quietly wait for the blood moon to go away which could take hours. Bill then realizes they can still make it out due to one of the walls in the basement being made of pure dirt and everyone digs out of the ground to the surface.

As everyone sneaks away, a little trick-or-treater arrives at the door for candy and accidentally releases all the animals who then proceed to chase everyone into the apartment building next door. Everyone reaches the top and proceed to grab as much candy as they possibly can while the animals proceed to attack everyone. Remy and Vasquez make amends when Vasquez reveals he always dresses up as a hot dog on Halloween and Remy was the costume stealer all along, and they get trampled by the animals. The Greens cut through Brett's apartment where he is having his party (the same one Gloria was trying to attend) and the animals begin wrecking the place. As they get to the roof, there is no place to go now, and Bill decides to willingly sacrifice himself to give Cricket time to enjoy the candy he earned. However, Cricket sacrifices his candy to save Bill, stating he was wrong all along and he doesn't want to spend his last moments eating candy, but with him. The Greens all decide to go down as a family as they face their fates and prepare to be devoured, but before they can do so, the blood moon lifts, and the animals return to normal.

Remy and Vasquez make up while Gloria reaches Brett's party unharmed, but battered and bruised. Cricket apologizes to Bill for not inviting him and promises he and Tilly will never go trick-or-treating without him every year on, under the condition he shouldn't try to scare them like that again which he accepts. The episode ends as the moon suddenly jump scares with Cricket's face on it shouting "Happy Halloween!"
